Tourism-Destinations

For tourists, Kerala offers Nature on a platter. Sandy beaches of Kovalam, blue Lagoons at Veli, Hill stations at Ponmudi and Munnar, backwaters of Kollam and Alappuzha, Greenland plantations in the high ranges, wildlife, high mountain peaks, picturesque valleys, magnificent forts and intricately decorated temples. Every one of these charming destinations is only two-hour drive from the other. This is an advantage, which no other destination offers.

Realising the importance of tourism in stimulating the economic development of the state, the Government of Kerala declared tourism as an industry in 1986. Today, tourism is Kerala’s boom industry and one of the fastest growing, high income and employment-generating sector. Constant efforts are on to promote Kerala abroad and marketing strategies are being evolved along with new and exciting tourism products. The state department of tourism along with private entrepreneurs is taking steps to improve the facilities and infrastructure at places with tourism potential.

Tourism is actually an expression of man’s natural instincts to move from one place to another. India’s tourist attractions warrant for more tourists than we are presently getting. No other country can match India as a tourist draw. As far as Kerala is concerned, the state's potential for tourism has been well accepted. Tourism is Kerala's boom industry. Strategically located at the southwestern tip of India, Kerala enjoys unique geographic features, which has made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Asia. The state is a breathtakingly beautiful green, Greenland. Natural endowments like tranquil beaches, soothing backwaters, exhilarating hill stations, enchanting waterfalls, historic monuments, spectacular art forms, rejuvenating health packages, exotic wildlife and year-round festivals offer excellent investment opportunities in tourism related activities. All of which offer the tourists a unique experience, which enchants him throughout his life.

Again, Kerala has in store more for the tourists. The state can boast of having the most advanced society in Kerala. It has a very high per cent literate people, the lowest infant mortality rate, the highest life expectancy rate, the highest quality of life etc. As a destination, Kerala can attract the independent traveller with its unique qualities like the pristine environment, the rich and vibrant culture and the high quality of life for the local inhabitants brought about by the state's investments since Independence in the field of education, health care, institutions of democracy, social justice etc. The state is also endowed with its unique natural, cultural and social resources.

When To Visit:

The proximity to the equator means Kerala’s climate is hot and being a
coastal state ensures a humid climate as well. But the breeze from the Lakshadweep Sea ensures that the temperatures are kept to a manageable low 30’s throughout the year. The months of November to March are most agreeable and for this reason is the accepted " tourist season".

The monsoon months beginning June breaks the season of heat and humidity- the Southwest monsoons from June to September and followed shortly thereafter by the North East Monsoon till end November. But there are takers for this "monsoon" seasons also – a recent phenomenon- not easy but certainly rewarding!
