State seeks Peninsular Railway Zone
1 Jul 2009, 1859 hrs IST
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: The state has sought a Peninsular Railway Zone with an allotment of Rs 2,000 crore in the Railway Budget for 2009-10, the state Assembly was told today.
Replying to a calling attention motion, Law Minister M Vijaya Kumar who is in charge of railway development in the state said the state government had already put forward a demand in this regard to the centre. Kerala was the only state in south India where there was no railway zone headquarters.
Pointing out that railway development was in a state of standstill due to lack of funds, he said the centre should allocate at least Rs 1,000 crore to the wagon factory in the state. Of the 65 Rail Over Bridges that were allotted to the state, the work could be completed only on 14 and it was progressing in another nine. If the centre could allot Rs 100 crore to the state, all the remaining ROBs could be completed within two years, he added. 0 (0) |
