DYFI to obstruct Gavai's public functions in Kerala
2 Jul 2009, 1000 hrs IST
KOZHIKODE, Kerala: The pro-CPI (M) Democratic Youth Federation of India yesterday threatened to obstruct the official functions attended by Governor R S Gavai in the State, protesting against his sanction to CBI to prosecute state party secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in a graft case.
"DYFI would not allow Governor R S Gavai to attend public functions in Kerala," its State Secretary T V Rajesh said, inaugurating a march here.
Alleging that Gavai's decision was just to appease the Congress party, he said the DYFI would not compromise on such "undemocratic' attitude. Addressing DYFI protestors who took out a march to the Head Post Office in Kannur, CPI-M State Committee member M V Jayarajan argued that the State Governors appointment should be made through ballots rather than being nominated by ruling party at the Centre. "The very idea was mooted by former Chief Minister and late Marxist veteran E M S Namboodiripad way back in 1959," Jayarajan maintained. The moves to appoint senior Congress leader K Karunakaran as Governor was being made only to contain factionalism within the major opposition party in Kerala, he alleged. 0 (0) |
