2 Jul 2009, 1717 hrs IST

LALGARH (WB), India: In order to normalise the situation in Naxal violence-hit Lalgarh, the administration today took several measures including resumption of classes in schools, drinking water supply and hospital services.

"Six state government buses will ply from Lalgarh to Medinipur. Gradually the number would increase. If necessary, the buses would be given police escort," Public Health Engineering secretary Saurav Das said.

Classes in schools would soon be resumed and free text books would be distributed to students at primary level from tomorrow. The police camps at the school buildings would be shifted to four other areas for which three locations had been selected. At present, Lalgarh has a police force of 900, including 50 women, he said.

To provide drinking water, the administration has sanctioned three pipelines in Pirakata, Katapahari and Ramgarh areas.
