Windies keen to win Friday's tie: Ramdin
3 Jul 2009, 0101 hrs IST
Cricket News: West Indies vice-captain Denesh Ramdin said his teammates realise the importance of Friday's encounter against India and would do whatever it takes to win the penultimate tie of the four-match ODI series.

Aware that whichever side wins the match on Friday would be spared the ignominy of a series defeat, Ramdin said confidence is not a problem with the West Indies since they crushed India by eight wickets to level the series 1-1 in Kingston.

"This is a very big weekend for us. We squared the series and it is very important that we win on Friday. I'm confident and the team is confident," Ramdin said after the team's practice session at the Beausejour Stadium here.

Ramdin reckoned beating India would not be easy but said West Indies were clicking as a team and was high on self-belief.

"It is a case of two good teams playing against each other and we expect two very competitive matches. We have been batting well and the bowlers did extremely well in the second match. Everyone is doing their part and we believe in ourselves and in each other," the 24-year-old stumper-batsman said.

Ramdin shone in the second ODI at Sabina Park even though his glovework was not exactly flawless. The youngster, however, is confident of getting better with every outing.

"This was the first time I had five catches in an ODI. I have been working hard and the hard work has been rewarded. It is always good to go out there and get some momentum and I was happy to do the job for the team," he said.

"The white ball was doing quite a bit and after we picked up early wickets we knew we have a very good chance of winning the match and getting back into the series," he added.

Ramdin was equally optimistic about his batting as well.

"I'm getting there. With every game I'm improving with the bat as well and I'm always looking to see what is required for the team and how to make things better," he said.
