MySpace names a finance chief
5 Oct 2009, 2232 hrs IST

NEW YORK - News Corp's MySpace has named a former Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer consultant as its chief financial officer, a new position for the online social network.

Mark Rosenbaum was a financial consultant to the MGM movie studio, and before that was a senior vice president for corporate finance at Gemstar-TV Guide, formerly a unit of News Corp, MySpace said in a statement on Monday.

He was chief executive at SmartJog SA, a venture capital-backed French Internet startup, and senior vice president of international free and basic TV distribution and U.S. Networks for News Corp's Twentieth Century Fox, MySpace said. Before that, he worked at Walt Disney Co.

Rosenbaum will report to MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta.

News Corp agreed in 2005 to buy MySpace, at the time the hottest online social network. Since then, rival social network Facebook has eclipsed it in popularity.

In June, MySpace said it planned to cut about two-thirds of its global workforce and 30 percent of its U.S. staff. News Corp also ousted then-CEO and co-founder Chris DeWolfe and installed its own management.
