KOCHI, Kerala: Responding to a mid-sea medical emergency, Indian Coast Guard evacuated a 31-year old UK national, on board a Sudan bound supply vessel from Sri Lanka.

The evacuation was carried out on Friday after the Coast Guard station at Vizhinjam in Kerala was alerted by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Mumbai, Coast Guard said.

On receiving the message, a Coast Guard ship evacuated the person, who had suffered a fracture on his left leg, from the supply vessel 'Sea Lion' flying Panama flag.

He has been admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for treatment, the coast guard said in a release.
