Need to strengthen statistical machinery: Jaiswal
9 Feb 2010, 0854 hrs IST
Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala: Data collected through administrative system in the country was far from satisfactory and state and sub-state level statistical machinery should be strengthened, Union Minister of State for Central Statistics and Programme Implementation Sriprakash Jaiswal said
Inaugurating the 17th conference of central and state statistical organisations here, Jaiswal said statistical data from administrative system was often unsatisfactory in quality and incomplete.
The collection of data was also being delayed owing to lack of co-ordination between departments, he said. Jaiswal said economic growth of the country had increased the demand for credible data to aid planning programmes. He wanted the states to make full use of the World Bank- aided Indan Statistical Strengthening Project. National Statistical Commission Chairman R Radhakrishnan was also present. 0 (0) |
