KALPETTA, Kerala: The district collector placed a board of the government in the coffee plantation claimed to be that of M V Shreyams Kumar MLA, after evicting the 57 adivasi families from it.

The adivasis had encroached 16.5 acres of land of Kalpetta MLA Shreyams Kumar’s coffee plantation in Wayanad led by a group of Adivasi Kshema Samithi (AKS) on February 6. The authorities tried their best to evict them from the land.

Revenue and police team led by Wayanad district collector T Bhaskaran and police superintendent G Sparjan Kumar used force and evicted them from the land. Though the adivasis were arrested and brought to the police station, they refused to get down from the police jeep. It has been alleged that the police harassed many including women and children.
